Weighted GPA Calculator

Tag each course as Regular, Honors, AP or IB and see your weighted GPA on the 5.0 scale — plus your plain unweighted GPA side by side, since most colleges recalculate it that way.

How weighting works

Weighted scales add points to grades earned in advanced courses. The most common scheme adds +1.0 for AP, IB and dual credit and +0.5 for Honors, so an A in AP Chemistry is worth 5.0 instead of 4.0:

weighted value = unweighted grade value + course boost
  Regular: +0.0 (4.0 scale, max 4.0)
  Honors: +0.5 (max 4.5)
  AP / IB: +1.0 (5.0 scale, max 5.0)

Schools differ — some weight by percentage points instead, and some cap how many weighted courses count. This calculator uses the common +0.5/+1.0 scheme; if your school publishes its own scale, plug those values in manually by picking the closest level.
