How cumulative GPA is calculated

Cumulative GPA is a credit-weighted average across everything you've taken. Your current GPA is really just total quality points ÷ total credits, so adding a semester means adding its quality points and credits to both sides:

new cumulative GPA =
(GPA so far × credits so far + semester quality points)
÷ (credits so far + semester credits)

Worked example: a 3.40 GPA over 60 credits, plus a 15-credit semester with 51 quality points (a 3.40 semester), gives (3.40 × 60 + 51) ÷ 75 = 3.40. A stronger semester pulls the number up; a weaker one pulls it down — but the more credits you've banked, the less any single semester moves it.
